Inspirational Stories

Judy SleppyAt just 59 years old, I never would have thought I’d become a widow. There I was, sorting through boxes and grieving, struggling to gain a clear picture of my financial situation. A friend referred me to SpiriTrust Lutheran and that phone call changed my life.

Last year, more than 21,000 lives were impacted by the programs and services provided by SpiriTrust Lutheran. The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is just one of these programs; however, it is the program that opened the door to hope, healing and comfort during the worst time of my life.

Your financial commitment provides priceless care to people like me, vulnerable members of your community that may not be able to afford the full cost of the care they need. The team members and volunteers helped me to file three years of my late husband’s taxes. They kept me calm and educated me. When my tax issues were resolved, the staff told me about a class being offered through SpiriTrust Lutheran’s Financial Education & Coaching program. I’ve learned to do a monthly budget, take charge of my finances and I’ve been able to stay in our family home despite doubts of doing so after my husband passed.

YOU are a vital partner in allowing even more people to receive the comfort, healing, and hope they critically need. I now serve as a volunteer with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, and I am grateful for the opportunity to give back to the organization and the people served by SpiriTrust Lutheran. They truly changed the course of my life after I became a widow.

Your gift opens doors for people like me who desperately need the programs and services of SpiriTrust Lutheran. Thank you. I am honored to be a member of the SpiriTrust Lutheran family with you.
