Golf Tournament raises more than $51,000

Thank you to all of our sponsors, golfers, volunteers and team members!

Supporters of SpiriTrust Lutheran® Home Care & Hospice gathered once again in Chambersburg to show their generosity and compassion for those in need by helping the SpiriTrust Lutheran® Foundation raise more than $51,000 at its 36th Annual Hospice Golf Tournament held August 11 at the Chambersburg Country Club. The scorching summer heat and humidity did not wither the spirit of the 112 golfers, six volunteers and 16 SpiriTrust Lutheran team members who supported this worthy cause.

“Our amazing supporters have once again raised the bar in this 36th year of the SpiriTrust Lutheran Hospice Golf Tournament,” said Glenn D. Miller, Vice President for External Relations and President of the SpiriTrust Lutheran Foundation®. “This year we raised more than $51,000 – an amazing testimony to just how passionate our donors are about how we impact the lives of our clients and families.”

“One of the unique features of hospice is that it is designed to provide care for the person that is ill along with support and assistance for the family. Everyone involved feels the impact of a terminal illness,” said Terry J. Shade, executive director of SpiriTrust Lutheran Home Care & Hospice. “Hospice recognizes this and is there to help during the final weeks and months of the client’s life and for up to 13 months afterwards to help loved ones learn to coping with loss and grief and to heal.”

The 28 teams entered in the shotgun start began the afternoon with a buffet luncheon and welcoming remarks before taking to the course. The golfers then cooled off in the clubhouse and enjoyed an assortment of hors d’oeuvres while awaiting the day’s results.

Pat O’Donnell, John Massimilla, Duane Barnes and Brian Massimilla, the foursome representing Summit Health, won the grand prize by posting the lowest gross score, earning each of them a round of golf at the prestigious Union League Golf Club at Torresdale and overnight accommodations at The Union League of Philadelphia.

The foursome of Darryle Lawson, Scott Shoemaker, John Nicklas and William Boyer captured the grand prize for lowest net score, earning them the same prize.

SpiriTrust Lutheran takes seriously its responsibility to steward the assets and legacy of the agency. We are deeply appreciative of the following business, community organizations and individuals whose support of the golf tournament enable us to provide compassionate care and services to those in need.
