Sandy | Utz Terrace
Sandy is a familiar, friendly face at Concordia at SpiriTrust Utz Terrace. On a weekly basis, she assists the Life Enrichment leadership by researching ideas and donating materials to create engaging games, delightful crafts, and meaningful activities for residents. She even lends her voice to lead singing during weekly church services. Sandy has been sharing her gifts for four years.
Sandy first became connected to Concordia at SpiriTrust four years ago when her mother-in-law was a resident, and volunteering offered a meaningful way for them to spend time together. As a retired LPN, Sandy spent a lifetime caring for others, and after her retirement and the passing of her mother-in-law, she sought a way to continue filling her days with purpose and connection.
“It was a good decision,” Sandy says. “The thing that gives me the most satisfaction is seeing a smile or hearing a chuckle. I feel connected to those I talk with. If I can get someone to laugh or open up, it’s a great thing. It’s fulfilling.”
Through her volunteer service, Sandy has discovered that the impact of giving goes both ways. “Everyone expresses their thanks for my efforts on a regular basis, but I probably receive as much benefit from the experience as they do. It’s funny how that works with volunteering!”
Like Sandy, you can make a lasting difference in the lives of our residents. Whether you have a specific talent to share or simply a friendly smile to offer, we would love to have you as part of our volunteer family.
